RESUMO

O bruxismo é um hábito parafuncional que pode afetar crianças em qualquer fase da infância, acarretando inúmeros prejuízos ao sistema estomatognático, que devem ser prevenidos desde que o odontopediatra esteja habilitado a diagnosticar e atender adequadamente a criança com esse hábito. Dessa forma, o objetivo desta revisão é apresentar uma atualização da literatura a respeito da prevalência, etiologia, diagnóstico, conseqüências e tratamento do bruxismo em crianças.

Abstract

Bruxism is a parafunctional disorder that can affect children during any stage of the childhood, causing many damages to the stomathognatic system that must be prevented. Consequently, the pediatric dentist must be prepared to diagnose and attend adequately the child with this habit. Thus, the aim of this study is to present a review of the actual literature about the prevalence, etiology, diagnosis, consequences and treatment of the bruxism in children.
