RESUMO

A prevenção e o tratamento da cárie dentária em crianças jovens constituem um grande desafio para os odontopediatras. A dificuldade em se controlar o comportamento do paciente infantil leva à busca por materiais eficazes e que demandem técnicas simples. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão crítica da literatura acerca do uso do diamino fluoreto de prata em odontopediatria, incluindo suas propriedades, mecanismo de ação e modo de aplicação. Além disso, procurou-se estudar o efeito cariostático e anticariogênico deste produto, por meio da avaliação de estudos longitudinais in vivo . Concluiu-se que o diamino fluoreto de prata é um agente passível de uso no tratamento da cárie dentária em função do seu potencial de prevenção e paralisação de lesões de cárie.

ABSTRACT

The prevention and treatment of dental caries in young children present a big challenge to the pediatric dentists. The difficulties concerning the behavior management of the pediatric dental patient lead to the search for efficacious materials that require simple techniques. The aim of this study was to perform a critical review of the literature about the use of the silver diamine fluoride in pediatric dentistry, including its properties, mode of action and general applying method. Moreover, the cariostatic and anticariogenic effects of this product were investigated by means of in vivo longitudinal studies. It was concluded that the silver diamine fluoride is a feasible agent in the treatment of dental caries due to its potential for preventing and arresting caries lesions.
