Na busca de lançar luz sobre o futuro da Odontologia, esta reportagem - a segunda da série especial de seis edições da Revista ABO Nacional sobre o tema - volta-se para o início de tudo, a Odontopediatria. Dando continuidade ao enfoque apresentado na primeira reportagem, que abordou o futuro a partir do ideal de levar Saúde Bucal a todos, esta edição trata da Odontologia dentro da atenção primária e da promoção da saúde de bebês - desde sua gestação -, crianças e jovens, como condição para cultivar e garantir o bem-estar geral desses indivíduos, não só nesta fase, mas por toda a vida.
Para abordar o assunto de forma ampla e diversificada, a revista ouviu grandes especialistas e estudiosos da Odontopediatria e Odontologia Coletiva: Roberto Vianna, Sônia Groisman, Luiz Reynaldo Figueiredo Walter, Salete Maria Pretto e Márcia Maria Vendiciano Barbosa Vasconcelos. Exemplos e visões de fora do Brasil também foram levantados. Bente Nyvad, pesquisadora dinamarquesa em Cariologia, fala dos mais novos conceitos no tratamento e prevenção da doença, enquanto Joseph Chan, coordenador de saúde bucal do governo de Hong Kong, apresenta a evolução e as perspectivas da Odontopediatria na região.
Como um dos responsáveis em promover e elevar a saúde da população brasileira, o cirurgião-dentista é convidado para a leitura a seguir e para refletir sobre o papel da Odontopediatria para o futuro da Odontologia no País.

The beginning of everything
Trying to throw some light on the future of Dentistry, this reportage - the second of the special series of six editions of National ABO Magazine about the theme - returns to the beginning of everything, the Pediatric Dentistry. Continuing to focus what was presented in the first reportage that had approached the future as from the ideal of providing Oral Health for everybody, this edition treats Dentistry within the primary care and promotion of baby's health - as from their gestation -, children and youth, as condition to cultivate and ensure general well-being to these individuals, not only in this phase, but for life.
To approach the issue in a wide and diversified manner, the magazine listened to great specialists and studious of Pediatric Dentistry and Collective Dentistry: Drs. Roberto Vianna, Sônia Groisman, Luiz Reynaldo Figueiredo Walter, Salete Maria Pretto and Márcia Maria Vendiciano Barbosa Vasconcelos. Examples and visions from outside Brazil were also collected. Dr. Bente Nyvad, a Danish researcher on Cariology talks about the most innovative concepts on treatment and prevention of disease, while Dr. Joseph Chan, coordinator of Oral Health from Hong Kong government, presents the evolution and perspectives of Pediatric Dentistry in the region.
