ABO's role

From ultimate performance, ABO Network is born

From North to South, from East to West, the Dental Professional can rely on National ABO wherever he/she is. In the course of 61 years, thank to the support and incentive of the Brazilian Dentistry highest organization and, in special, to the efforts of decisive entrepreneur dentists, ABO has established itself in all 27 Brazilian states and cities totalizing 321 cells. Nowadays, all Sections democratically take part in the decision making in the National ABO's conventions with rights to speak and to vote; strengthen the continuing education in their states; transfer knowledge and information to the population; and work in favor of the common oral heath. Therefore, the so called ABO Network was made real, formed by 321 cells: 27 Sections and 293 Sectionals. According to the president of the World Dental Federation (FDI), Dr. H.R. Yoon, in his 2004visit to Brazil , ABO represents “the world largest network of professional qualification” and “it is the world leader in education”, as reinforced by the current president of the FDI, Dr. Burton Conrod in a recent visit to Brazil .

Currently, there are 83 Continuing Education Schools (EEC) under the name UniABO through which more than a thousand courses are offered each year at the 1,500 offices and where approximately 3,000 teachers (doctors, faculty professors, masters and specialists) share their knowledge to qualify the Brazilian dentists. At the same time, the EECs fulfill an important social role by providing dental care to the population.

Occupying spaces for population defense

Nowadays, there are more than 90 thousand ABO members. However, the association supports all 200 thousand Brazilian professionals providing advantages and benefits for the entire category through strong political performance generated by the current management of the association.

That is what happened in the case of the Provisional Measure (MP) 232 which used to tax services providers including dentists. ABO immediately joined the Brazilian Front against the MP 232 in a historical protest and was able to knock down the government's pretension with a clear victory of the organized society. This motion originated the Permanent Forum in Support of the Services Segment and ABO was invited to take part in the jurisdiction, participating actively in the works. The ABO also participates in the Entrepreneur's Forum that claims for greater social and fiscal justice in the country.

The deserved international accomplishments

Still as a natural consequence of its international participation, its contingent of dentists, and its current articulated management policy, ABO has acquired today, the largest world representation in the International Dental Federation (FDI). Through a unanimous approval from the Executive Management and the FDI's Board, the ABO is currently ranked ahead of the United States and Japan in terms of representation. Acknowledged as Regular Member of the FDI, this national Brazilian entity is consisted of 12 delegates with right to speak, to vote and to be voted at the Federation's general meetings. Moreover, in September of 2009 is going to take office, the elected president Dr. Roberto Vianna, the first Brazilian and Latin-American to manage the entity; and also, the ABO's current president Dr. Norberto Lubiana is going to run for reelections at the FDI Board. In 2010, an important scientific and enterprise event is going to take place in Salvador ( Bahia ): the FDI World Congress.

By contributing for all 200 thousand Brazilian dentists and not only for its members, as approved at the General Meeting of the ABO's National Deliberative Board, from now on, the entity is going to favor and to offer advantages to all Brazilian professionals.
